MQP's Programming solutions for Hitachi
Microprocessors

MQP Electronics manufacture a complete range of equipment for
programming Hitachi Microprocessors, for both development and
production. We are suppliers of adapters to Hitachi, and can give
you early support for new device types. This document is found
on our Web Site and is regularly updated, so please check there
if the information you need is not included.
The following tables summarise the requirements of adapters and
programmers for available Hitachi Microprocessors. Where the adapter
number starts with AD... it is manufactured by MQP and usually
available ex stock.

The tables above are based on information supplied to us by Hitachi.

This is the device type that the programming algorithm most closely
resembles. It is however not an exact equivalent. There are several
reasons why an algorithm for the 'equivalent' EPROM (or FLASH)
device may not program the microprocessor part correctly.
- The EPROM (or FLASH) part has a Silicon Signature (ID), accessed
by applying 12V to address A9. If 12V is applied to the equivalent
pin on the microprocessor is is likely that damage will result.
The usual precaution against this possibility is to make sure
that ID checking function is disabled before attempting any
function (Reading, Programming, Blank Checking or Checksumming)
on the microprocessor.
- The programmable address space of the microprocessor may be
less than the address space of the equivalent EPROM or FLASH
device. If this is so then Blank Check, Verify, Programming
or Checksumming functions may well fail because non-existant
memory is accessed. It will be necessary to use a programmer
which either specifically allows the microcontroller in question
to be chosen or which allows the address range to be adjusted
to suit the microprocessor.
- The VCC current will be different from the equivalent EPROM
or FLASH device. Some programmers will reject the microprocessor
for this reason.
- Many microcontroller adapters include oscillator circuitry
to supply the microprocessor clock. The programmer will have
to make allowances for the extra time required after power up
before attempting to access the microprocessor. Similarly many
adapters have requirements for the power on reset circuitry
to have time to operate, and the time delay involved is often
surprisingly long.
MQP also manufactures a comprehensive range of device programmers.
If you have any difficulty using existing equipment which may
not take into account the differences mentioned above, please
contact us for a single site or a gang solution. Our sales office
will be pleased to advise.
